Orders have changed, the war is on hold while the politicians are trying to talk it all out. However, no one believes peace is on the horizon. The V’Zenians are gearing up for war, which means they need more workers! Venay is charged with abducting more humans, and Paris is livid! She’s ready to leave Venay if he abducts any more of her people. Our shifty young lady from the streets has a plan! Will the V’Zenian leadership agree? Or will Venay just blindly follow orders?

Here’s Worlds Entwined snippet 1 from chapter 2 with Venay and Paris in The Pancake House discussing the situation:

“So, what did they say?” His face was arranged in his natural stoic expression, so I couldn’t tell if he had good news or bad.

“They didn’t want to use Zeleron 10. It is just too far from the home world. It is a five-month journey. Transporting natural resources for five months isn’t very difficult, but finished product is.” His veins continued to pulse green, and I wondered if he was worried.

Green usually meant a neutral feeling. It showed nothing was bothering them. I hoped it meant he was getting to the good news.

“However, they want to discuss this idea of yours with the rest of the council, and they want a report from Croso about productivity levels here. Until the humans were freed, all they did was mine some natural resources and provide us with supplies. This was never intended to be a city of commerce or even one which made anything.” He took a bite off my plate.

“Do you think they’re at least open to the concept?” I waived over Betsy and asked her for another plate with extra bacon. For Venay, of course. I might take a couple pieces of bacon since he didn’t need that much food.

“I am hopeful. The fact that some of the residents had skills they could put to use for our benefit, was a plus. Half of what has been made here was never planned. I think the leaders are going to be surprised when they see what has been accomplished.” He said.

“Some know, but nothing ever formal was sent home. Croso said he had been planning a report on how the settlement was growing since he freed the humans. He should have it ready to send later today. Maybe by the time the new ship arrives we will have an answer.” He took another bite of my pancakes, and I slapped his hand away.

“Your plate’s coming. Stop eating my breakfast.” I scooted my plate away from his reach.

“I will share my pancakes with you when they arrive. It is almost lunch time, and I am famished. His stomach made a gurgling noise. “See, my stomach agrees, it wants food.” He lowered his head, pouted, and whispered, “Please?”

“Oh, you so have to stop watching chick flicks,” I chuckled. “When women do that, it’s funny and maybe even cute. But when a big, strong, alien man like yourself attempts it, it’s just wrong.” I shook my head. “Wrong on so many levels.”

He grabbed another bite from my plate with his fingers. Once the food was in his mouth, he sucked the syrup off his fingers. Then leaned down and kissed me. I loved it when he did that. The sweet syrupy taste of his lips was heaven.

“Excuse me, but this is a public place. Get a room if you can’t keep your hands off him, Paris.” Betsy put the plate in front of Venay and scurried off.

Venay and I looked at each other and chuckled. I shrugged my shoulders. “She’s right. We shouldn’t be kissing here.”

“I caught her kissing one of my warriors the other day out back.” Venay pointed to the back of the Pancake House.

“NO WAY!” I punched his arm. “And you didn’t tell me until now? Who was it? He better not be one of your older warriors. Or one of the gigolos!” I slapped the table.

“Don’t worry, it was one of the boys born here twenty years ago. He is training to be a warrior but hasn’t become one yet. The boy is nice. You would like him.”

I eyed Venay and pursed my lips. “You should have told me sooner. I’m trying to keep an eye on her. You keeping secrets isn’t helping me.” Ever since Betsy and I met in the holding cells on Venay’s ship, I have tried to keep an eye on her. She was like the little sister I never had.

“Paris, she is an adult. She is eighteen. Even in Earth terms, she is responsible for herself.” He shook his head. “I feel sorry for our future children.” His lips were firm, and the wrinkles around his mouth showed me he was trying very hard not to laugh.

“Venay, we aren’t having kids for a long time. Get over it.” I pushed out of the booth, and he stopped his fork half-way to his mouth.

“Aren’t you going to sit with me while I finish my lunch. Then we can go back to the apartment and spend the rest of the time checking out your new sheets.” He wiggled his eyebrows, and his veins started to turn from green to a pale purple.

“Sorry, I’m busy. Ask me again when your government meets my demands.” I twisted around and walked out the door. As I was turning, I saw his mouth and eyes both open wide and his forehead crinkle. I had him right where I wanted him.
